    Description

    The great white shark is a species of mackerel shark that lives in the coastal waters of all oceans. It is a very large animal, with some females measuring 20 feet in length and weighing up to 5,000 pounds. They are, generally, smaller, with the males being 11 to 13 feet long and the females at 15 to 16 feet on average.  Scientists estimate that their life span can reach 70 years or more, which makes them one of the oldest cartilaginous fishes known. They can swim at great speeds as well: 16 mph in short bursts, and at depths of 3,900 feet. It reaches sexual maturity at 26 years for males and 33 years for females.  They have no natural enemies, except for the killer whale, and will prey on animals as large as the baleen whale. It is responsible for more shark attacks on humans than any other species.
